Sniff'n' The Tears

Hi y'all, hope you spent the last week listening to some good music as I did.
Since I started this blog I keep thinking what kind of music people might like as I serve rare and (sometimes obscure) stuff. Tonight I'd like to serve you some Sniff'n The Tears. Most of you might remember this band and their great "Driver's Seat". But this wasn't just a one-hit-wonder, they had so much more to offer during the late 70's/early 80's. Please also take a close look on the cover artwork, they were all painted by the singer, Paul Roberts.
In my humble opinion, Sniff'n The Tears is a band much too good to be forgotten. HEAVILY RECOMMENDED!

A quick one

Just a quick post before the week ends. Let's not waste too much time...

Schwarze Bewegung - Schwarze Bewegung (1982)

Tracklist:
  1. Traumfrau
  2. Schlager in allen Kassen
  3. Nullerregung
  4. Ein Hauch von Brillanz
  5. Tanz auf dem Vulkan
  6. Schwarze Bewegung
  7. Hochsicherheitstrakt
  8. 5 Minuten
  9. Strandkorbschlacht in Norderney
  10. Terror in den Strassen
  11. Traum-DUB
Even if the cover and songtitles would assume that it could be a punk band, this album has quite little to do wit punk music. It's a typical underground NDW release instead. Quite interesting stuff.

Necronomicon - Tips zum Selbstmord (1972)

Tracklist:
  1. Prolog
  2. Requiem der Natur
  3. Tips zum Selbstmord
  4. Die Stadt
  5. In Memoriam
  6. Requiem vom Ende

This is one of the most sought-after and most expensive Kraut albums. The first pressings of this independently released record reach about 375 EUR! Recommended!

Gentle Giant - Three Friends (1972)

Tracklist:
  1. Prologue
  2. Schooldays
  3. Working All Day
  4. Peel The Paint
  5. Mister Class And Quality?
  6. Three Friends
Last but not least, GENTLE GIANT's third album, "Three Friends". Unfortunately, I don't have any more stuff from this band, but I think this will change very soon. Bought this album a bunch of years ago butwas shelved soon afteruntil I recently rediscovered it to find out this is a great piece of music! It's a concept album, as stated in the liner notes:
"The idea of this album came about simply from normal conversations within the group. You know how people often reminisce about old school friends and wonder whatever became of them; or the people who surprise us with their successes or failures. Anyway, the theme in this album is based on three people - friends at school but inevitably separated by chance, skill and fate."

That's all for tonight. I hope you'll like what you find here.

British Rock'n'Roll

And now for something completely different...some vintage british rock'n'roll tunes. Hope you'll enjoy tonight's post...

Mud - Mud Rock (1974)

Tracklist:
  1. Rocket
  2. Do You Love Me/Sha La La La Lee
  3. Running Bear
  4. The Hippy Hippy Shake
  5. Shake Rattle and Roll/See You Later Alligator
  6. Dynamite/The Cat Crept In/Tiger Feet
  7. The End Of The World
  8. Blue Moon
  9. In The Mood
  10. Bye Bye Johnny
MUD's first album, MUD ROCK, was recorded during the early part of 1974. Unlike their contemporaries (Suzi Quatro, Sweet, etc) MUD ROCK did not feature any of the band’s own compositions. Instead, the album was made up of a selection of covers of 1950/60s rock 'n' roll classics, along with several Chinn/Chapman tracks.
MUD ROCK is a fun album, emphasised by the party noises added to the background between tracks and the use of ‘Geoffrey’ from Radio Trent as a presenter. Unusually, MUD re-recorded three of their biggest hits - Dynamite, The Cat Crept In and Tiger Feet - as a medley. Also featured is the band’s sixth single for RAK, “Rocket”.

Racey - Some Girls 7" (1979)

Tracklist:
  1. Some Girls
  2. Fighting Chance
Another "Chinnichap" Band that scored a bunch of hit singles at the end of the seventies. Still love this tune. "Some Girls", was written for Blondie, for whom Mike Chapman also produced, but was instead given to Racey as a follow-up to "Lay Your Love On Me".

Quireboys - Hey You 12" (1989)

Tracklist:
  1. Hey You
  2. Sex Party
  3. Hoochie Coochie Man (live)
The Quireboys, or "Queerboys", as they were originally named, played a mix between old Rolling Stones, Rod Steward/Faces classic rock with more modern influences like G'n'R. High class sleaze guitars they had, but I never got along with the singer (he sounds just like an old crow imo). Nevertheless, "Hey You" and "Sex Party" are two great tunes that were taken from their highly acclaimed debut album "A Bit Of What You Fancy". Along with the live track, this is a nice collectors item. ENJOY!

An evening with old friends...

Straight Shooter - Deep In The Night (1984)

Tracklist:
1. Deep In The Night
2. Blue Collar

As I promised, here's some more STRAIGHT SHOOTER for y'all. After 6 albums and 6 years with their label Sky Records, the band had changed to a major label, RCA. Unfortunately, this was their first record for a major label and their last record ever made. Anyway, "Deep In The Night" is a very enjoyable Song. Hope you'll like it.

Lancelot - History (1995)

Tracklist:
1. But I Just Can't Stay Behind
2. Come For Me Lady
3. Wastin' My Love
4. Bird In A Golden Cage
5. Heroes
6. Old Times
7. Slow Down
8. Fire In The Night
9. Get Down And Dirty
10. Dancing On A Wire
11. Junkey For Your Love
12. Nightlover
13. Bonus Track

Another "old friend" of mine, that I introduced in some of my older posts. As the title says, LANCELOT have indeed a history, here it is in brief: founded in the 70's, one minor hit single in germany in the early 80's (But I Just Can't Stay Behind) relocated to L.A. around '85, renamed band to JUICY LUCY, recorded one album under that nam, but without success, went back to germany in '91. In '95, before they went on under the new name PARAGRAPH 51, they decided to re-record some of their old material and release it under their old name, LANCELOT. And voila, here it is, their album "History".

Red Aim - Sinai Jam (1996)

Tracklist:
1. Intro
2. Monastir
3. Wombat
4. Desertspoon
5. Sinai Jam
6. Nadi

Now to my last one for tonight. Bought this CD yesterday. Thought it would be a nice addition to this blog, RED AIM's very first record, self-released in 1996. The band normally plays their very unique stoner rock style, but this album's quite far from stoner rock, it's a trip into late 60's psychedellic Kraut-Rock. like they were heavy on LSD. As they say on their homepage, they only wanted to enter the studio to record a 3-track demo. Shortly before that, they met a strange old guy with a didgeridoo and a sitar and took him with 'em ... so here's the result. Trippingly recommended!
