Sniff'n' The Tears

Hi y'all, hope you spent the last week listening to some good music as I did.
Since I started this blog I keep thinking what kind of music people might like as I serve rare and (sometimes obscure) stuff. Tonight I'd like to serve you some Sniff'n The Tears. Most of you might remember this band and their great "Driver's Seat". But this wasn't just a one-hit-wonder, they had so much more to offer during the late 70's/early 80's. Please also take a close look on the cover artwork, they were all painted by the singer, Paul Roberts.
In my humble opinion, Sniff'n The Tears is a band much too good to be forgotten. HEAVILY RECOMMENDED!

Great post with Sniff 'n', i totaly agree with you when you say that this is a way too good band to be left in oblivion, they surely deserve better then to be all forgotten. Nice blog btw, just found it today and think i will give it a peek on a daily basis.

Thank you, been wanting this song Drivers Seat since I was young and hearing it on the radio all the time back then.

Many thanks for this great post. Driver's Seat is a really great song, but all the other SnT songs are underappreciated gems. My vinyl was grey, and my cassette recording spliced a few times. Thanks!

Thanks, this is great! I had forgot how much I loved this band back in the vinyl era!

Hey there, would love to download the Sniff n the Tears albums. Unfortunately Rapidshare is no-go for me. Any chance of a re-up on Megaupload or similar? Cheers!! Matt.

Any chance for Splitbeaver-When hell don't have you or Heir Apparent-One small Voice?

I think you meant to say Paul Roberts painted the cover artwork for the albums, not Paul Rogers, who was in Free and Bad Company. Not sure how he got away with the exposed nipple on the cover of "The Game's Up", but it works for me.

Hello my anonymous friend,

of course you're right. It was Paul Roberts who was singer of SNTT and did all the cover artwork, not Paul Rogers of FREE and BAD COMPANY fame. I've already fixed it in my post.

Thank you for sharing Sniff n'The Tera. Drivers Seat has been my favorite song since I was like 5 years old and it is a rare find online.

So, your work is very much appreciated.

I agree that Sniff n' the Tears was a great band. I had the original vinyl but unfortunately have had to relinquish almost all with moves over the years. I was about 27 at the time and a bit on the wild side. A Saturday night drive was always memorable. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

It's been over a year since you posted, but I'm hoping late is better than never.
Thank you so much for the Sniff'n' the Tears and City Boy posts. I'm converting my vinyl collection to digital, so I got a USB turntable. Unfortunately, it takes one to two hours to record and clean up a single LP. With 700-800 albums, that's a lot of time I don't have, so these online rips (as well as CDs I've bought or borrowed from friends and libraries) are a blessing. Especially with bands I love (e.g., SntT and CB), but whose popularity and fame bubbled well below the surface.
Back when Sniff got some decent airplay, (Love Action, Rodeo Drive, Poison Pen Mail, for instance), I'd enjoyed hearing the tunes, but didn't really feel compelled to get the albums. Then about ten years ago, I got their Best of... CD, and realized I loved every song on it more and more with each listen.
Since then, I found the LPs, and placed the band squarely in my top 20 favorite artists.
So I thank you for having provided us with these gems!

Thanks a lot for all the Sniff 'n' The Tears stuff! Yet I had their debut only. Did you know that they're supposed to have a new album out now (March 2011), called "Downstream"?

Thanks for this - based on Poison Pen Mail & Driver's Seat, the entire works have been on my rather long shortlists for several years. This gives me a chance to window shop the whole department store at leisure.

Thanks for reminding the world of this great band. Fantastic LP's for sure.

Paul Roberts sang and or is still singing with the STRANGLERS. Not the same style but convincing also.

Thanks so much for this ... loved the song Drivers Seat but never knew who sang it till now ... Thanks for making their LP available so I can see if they were a one hit wonder or not as I never ever heard any other tracks from them but then again, that's just a reflection on the crap music industry and commercial radio stations out there ...
